Mobile App User Acquisition Made Easy

What often makes or breaks the success of a mobile app is a company's user acquisition strategy. After all, considering that there are over 1.5 million apps in the App Store and even more on Google Play, it's hard to stand out from the competition.

So how do you set yourself up for success? BluEnt has designed a five-step process to help you drive traffic and gain conversions long after your launch.

Step #1: Determine your unique value proposition:

The first step in creating a successful user acquisition plan is defining your core message. This is how you will communicate to your potential users what value your app will offer them. How does the app fit into their daily life? What can it do that no other mobile app on the market can do? Naturally, marketing a product that looks and feels just like those of your competition won't convince anyone to make the switch to your app.

Luckily, you should already have the answers to such questions from the earliest stages of the initial product development stages of the application. Now all you have to do is figure how to turn those insights into a clear message that will persuade users to download the app on their phone.

When done right, this message will give your target audience a solid understanding of the user experience as well as resonate with their personal goals and pain points.

Step #2: Create Awareness:

Once you've fleshed out your unique value proposition, begin strategizing how capitalize on it through channels such as press coverage. That includes teaser trailers, interviews, and press releases that will precede the product launch.

This will require building an app press kit full of promotional videos, review guides, testimonials, and any other pieces of relevant material. You can then send the kit out to all media organizations you work with so they have access to all the information they need in one centralized document.

When it comes to promoting through social media marketing, many companies choose to spread the word using Facebook mobile app download. However, remember that YouTube video ads, and Instagram and Twitter ads may also prove to be beneficial to your campaign.

Though Facebook is the most successful in general, make sure you're putting resources towards the best ad formats for your target audience to achieve the highest ROI.

Step #3: Generate Buzz:

The next step to pursue more targeted avenues of promotion. Look into brand partnerships and influencers who can help you spread the news. These can be with companies with whom you already have established symbiotic relationships, or new ones whose audiences overlap with your target demographic. Find ways to create a mutually beneficial collaboration through paid promotions or co-marketing initiatives.

You should also consider using organic social media strategies in conjunction with paid ads. Pay attention to your users' behaviour on social media and engage with them on relevant platforms through comments and groups. Specialty discussion boards on sites like Facebook and Reddit are an ideal way of seeking out your target audience directly.

Another way to generate buzz is through creating a sense of exclusivity. For example, you could set up a closed beta list to give a select group of users early access. This may be through a general sign up sheet or a pre selected handful of individuals you discovered during the product research stage of development. You can leverage their reviews to create online buzz, as well as in future updates as a source of feedback.

Step #4: App Store Optimization:

App Store Optimization is just like SEO for applications. It is the process of optimizing your app store listing to improve its ranking in the search results and drive more traffic. Considering that nearly 65% of app discovery comes from in-app store searches, increasing your app's visibility is key to user acquisition.

We could write a whole blog post on App Store Optimization techniques, but here we'll only mention two of the most important:

  • Get good reviews. Similar to SEO, part of the theory behind App Store Optimization is to convey a positive user experience through your listing. Therefore, the higher the rating, more positive the reviews, and the more reviews there are, the better your user experience comes across. Do your best to encourage users to submit reviews and resolve any negative feedback that come up. Again, this feedback will only help you down the line as you develop further iterations of the application.

  • Use keywords. This is another technique App Store Optimization and Search Engine Optimization Keywords are not a function of compelling UX & UI, but rather relevancy to user searches. In choosing the most effective keywords, focus on balancing relevance, search volume, and keyword competitiveness. Then, strategically place them throughout your app listing, particularly in the title and description.

Since BluEnt specializes in SEO as well as mobile app development, we leverage the combined expertise and capabilities of our team to ensure that our clients' apps are optimized from the user experience to the app store and beyond. We design holistic solutions that capture value from every angle to ensure our clients consistent conversions and high ROI.

Step #5: Define and Refine:

As we've been hinting throughout this article, your user acquisition strategy does not end with the product launch. Just like any other business, it's important to take in user feedback and continue to experiment with different channels and platforms. This way, you'll be able to hone in on the most effective methods of app discovery and use them to improve ongoing marketing efforts.

At BluEnt, we uphold open communication throughout projects to consistently improve their applications through quality support and maintenance.
